About CountMaterials
Who we are and why we built a calculator that gives you an order, not a number.
The mission
CountMaterials exists to close the gap between "I have dimensions" and "I know what to buy". The team behind it has spent years watching homeowners and small contractors struggle to convert cubic-yard results from existing calculators into actual purchase decisions standing in a hardware store aisle.
Every other calculator gives you a number — usually a volume in cubic yards. This one gives you the order: bag counts at 40, 60, and 80 pounds; ready-mix yards rounded to the nearest quarter; gravel tonnage for the sub-base; rebar linear feet at any spacing; and a cost band that compares bag vs ready-mix options using your local prices.
The site is also a content play. Each tool ships with 900+ words of original prose — worked numeric examples, reference tables, decision guidance, and an honest "what the estimate excludes" section. That's the difference between a tool and a calculation.
Built and maintained by Rizwan. Calculations are performed client-side using published manufacturer bag yields, ACI mix ratios, and ASTM rebar specifications. Every formula and worked example on this site can be verified by hand against the sources listed below.
- • Every tool page is hand-verified against a worked numeric example before publishing.
- • Calculations are client-side and transparent — view the source to see the formulas.
- • Constants are sourced from manufacturer technical data sheets and ASTM/ACI references, with sources cited on every page.
- • No tool ships with under 500 words of original prose. Most ship with 900+.
- • We never publish more than 3 tool pages per day during initial build — a deliberate pattern to avoid low-value content flags.
- • User accounts. No saved projects, no server state. Each visit is independent.
- • Lead generation. We don't sell contractor leads or charge for quotes. Different business.
- • Mobile apps. The web app is the app — installable as a PWA on any phone.
- • Multi-language. US English only at launch. Other English variants may follow.
